2021 was another wild ride – but we held on hard enough to get through the year. Of course, it certainly wasn’t our grip on reality that got us to the other side. From Netflix originals to Amazon gems, it’s our ability to escape in movies and TV shows that has helped us.

Now, with 2022 on the horizon, we look to future series to excite and delight us during 365 days of uncertainty – but our interest isn’t limited to Hollywood blockbusters. Some of the most anticipated prime ministers were filmed here in the True North, and they’re the ones who will keep us going! Here are seven TV shows filmed in Canada to look forward to the New Year!

THE BOYS: SEASON 3

Amazon Prime’s horrific action-drama filmed in Toronto The boys is back! Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, and Chace Crawford, the series’ third season is slated to hit our screens in May 2022 with a familiar new addition to the cast – Jensen Ackles.

REGINALD THE VAMPIRE

Featuring Spider Man Jacob Batalon, Alum and Escape Star, Original Syfy Reginald the vampire is one that has been in the works for years. Filmed in Vancouver, this comedy series will follow Reginald, a misfit vampire who weaves his way through a self-centered community of gorgeous but deadly monsters.

THE LAST OF US

Named the most expensive television show in history, The Last Of Us, set in Alberta, is expected to captivate audiences with its doomsday storyline and adorable cast. With Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos) as ferryman and Bella Ramsay (Game of thrones) As a much younger companion, TLOU is slated to premiere on HBO sometime in 2022.

CABINET OF CURIOSITIES

With Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) and Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead) modern horror masters from all over the world have come together for Guillermo del Toro Cabinet of curiosities an anthology series filmed in and around Toronto. Set to drop on Netflix in 2022, we’ve been eagerly awaiting this one since it was announced that it was picked up in 2018.

UNDER THE BANNER OF THE SKY

Featuring The incredible spiderman Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal people), the series shot in Alberta, Under the banner of heaven, is a true crime adaptation based on Jon Krakauer’s novel which chronicles the tragic 1984 murder of Brenda Lafferty and her baby girl. While there is no official release date yet, we can expect the limited series on FX to arrive in 2022.

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY: SEASON 3

Also shot in Toronto, The Umbrella Academy and its colorful cast of misfits will also be back for its third season. Fun Fact: This show is actually based on the comics written and created by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way – so welcome to the Black Parade, we’re guessing.

With Jason Mamoa, dystopian sci-fi series See is another show filmed in Toronto that’s slated to drop its third season in 2022, of course, to watch this one you’ll need to have Apple TV, which is a lot less popular than Netflix or Prime – but definitely worth it, don’t would it be for this particular show.
