EXCLUSIVE: the first scripted Amazon Original Canadian series from Prime Video, Lake, gets a second season. Amazon has given the green light to another cycle of the half-hour comedy written and produced by Julian Doucet (spoiler) and executive produced by Karen Troubetzkoy (spoiler, black orphan). Michael Souther and Teza Lawrence are also executive producers for Amaze (Carter).
Based in part on Doucet’s life experience, Lake focuses on the quintessential Canadian cottage experience. Season 1 began with Justin (Jordan Gavaris) returning from living abroad after a breakup with his longtime partner, hoping to reconnect with the biological daughter he gave up for adoption as a teenager. His plans to create new memories with his townsman daughter Billie (Madison Shamoun) at the idyllic lakeside of his childhood go awry when he discovers his father had left the family cottage to his “perfect” half-sister, Maisy- May (Julia Stiles).

Production began in Northern Ontario, where Season 1 was filmed.

The Amazon Original Canadian Series Slate includes The children in the room, LOL: The Last Laughing Canada, The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith and All or Nothing: The Toronto Maple Leafs. Since 2015, Amazon Studios has shot more than two dozen original series and films in Canada, including The Man in the High Castle and To download in Vancouver, The boys and The extent in Toronto, Tales from the Loop in Winnipeg, as well as parts of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and The Voyeurs to Montreal.
Season 1 of Lake, which Deadline also reported, premiered June 17 on Prime Video. Season 1 is available in over 240 countries and territories around the world.
