Instructor-led short courses consist of lectures delivered online or in person, supplemented with hands-on sessions delivered at the CASTL training center. The facility contains state-of-the-art pilot-scale bioprocessing equipment that provides trainees with hands-on skills that are immediately transferable to large-scale processing and cleanroom environments. It is also equipped with labs and classroom spaces built to provide the highest quality training for industry professionals.

“This first short course offering on Prince Edward Island marks an important milestone in CASTL’s national biomanufacturing training program,” said Penny Walsh-McGuire, CEO of CASTL. “We continue to hear from employers across Canada talking about the need for hands-on training to support Canada’s growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing sector. This is an important step in the development of the skills and training ecosystem.

“Developing highly qualified personnel who will drive the growth of the Canadian life sciences industry is central to our mission, and part of that goal is to ensure we will be able to meet the demand for biomanufacturing. . These new short courses from CASTL do just that,” added Dr. Christine Allen, Vice President, Ecosystem at adMare BioInnovations. “Our adMare Academy trains undergraduates to industry executives and provides them with the knowledge, skills and network to start or grow their careers in the Canadian life sciences sector. We are proud to be the premier national partner for CASTL programs, which provide much-needed hands-on training in biomanufacturing and ensure Canadian companies have the talent they need to succeed today and in the future.

CASTL’s new Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Onboarding Boot Camp, a 4.5-day hands-on training course, introduces the necessary fundamental knowledge and hands-on operations needed to successfully onboard new employees and prepare them to navigate a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. It includes both hands-on hands-on training and theoretical knowledge covering Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), dressing, aseptic techniques and common equipment operation for all work in a manufacturing environment.

“After successfully completing the course, trainees will be ready to navigate a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility,” said Paul-Xavier Etter, Technical Training Manager at CASTL. “The boot camp is designed to incorporate newly hired operators and technical personnel as part of their integration into a modern biopharmaceutical or bioprocessing facility, as well as someone working in a manufacturing support role, such as quality assurance auditors.”
