First-year player becomes last in WVU women’s soccer program to get a chance to play for Team Canada

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – First-year defenseman Annika Leslie of the University of West Virginia women’s soccer team has been named to the U-20 roster of Canada’s National Women’s Team Program for an upcoming identification camp in Markham, Ontario, in January.

The U-20 camp continues Canada’s initial preparations for the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Women’s Championship from February 25 to March 12 in the Dominican Republic.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Leslie previously participated in Canada’s National Team program as a member of the U-17 and U-15 teams. Most recently, she was legend of the Under-17 team on the 2019 Mexican tour.

During her first season with the Mountaineers, Leslie appeared in 14 games for WVU, while she won the starting title in five games. She totaled 632 minutes played in her freshman campaign. This fall, she helped the WVU defense register 11 shutouts during the year, while allowing only 12 goals for their opponents throughout the season.
