Following the recent announcement of Kung Fu Panda 4 earlier this week, fans everywhere are now clamoring for the announcement of a fifth Shrek movie.
Whereas Kung Fu Panda 4 just got an exciting release date announcement, it ironically left fans hungry for details for a fifth Shrek film instead.
On Friday, DreamWorks Animation officially announced Kung Fu Panda 4which is slated for release on March 8, 2024. Although fans seem to be excited about the movie’s announcement, many seem more eager for a Shrek 5 announcement. The last time audiences saw their favorite animated ogre voiced by Mike Myers was in 2010 with the release of shrek forever. The film – marketed as The last chapter – grossed a worldwide total of $752.6 million at the box office. Yet the demands of a new Shrek have become a common retort on Twitter to kung fu panda announcement.
The kung fu panda The franchise follows the titular panda Po Ping, who is cast as the prophesied dragon warrior and becomes a kung fu master after Master Shifu’s guidance. The first two films in the series were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature as well as multiple Annie Awards. Kung Fu Panda 3the previous entry in the computer-animated family franchise came in 2016 and ended up grossing a total of $521.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Anyway, love for the Shrek the franchise seems to have eclipsed kung fu pandaFourquel’s big announcement. While it’s been over a decade since the fourth (allegedly final) Shrek film, the franchise continued with three animated shows, a television special, a play, and several video games. Plus, it soon received a spin-off movie in the form of 2011 Puss in Bootswhich also has a sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is slated for theatrical release in December. Still, to some fans, it would seem that none of these offerings compare to the prospect of a fifth movie.
Although there have been some developments on the Shrek 5 front over the years, things remain at a standstill. However, star Mike Myers recently made a comment that could be seen as promising, saying, “The concept of going from a self-hating ogre to self-accepting ogre was meaningful to me. I love playing Shrek If I had to make a Shrek a year, I would be delighted.”
Kung Fu Panda 4 will arrive in theaters on March 8, 2024.
