Two British intelligence officers plan to trick the Nazis and alter the course of World War II in this new Netflix movie. The true story is based on a scheme that helped turn the tide of the conflict in favor of Allied forces in Europe. Colin Firth plays the lead role.

THURSDAY

Wild beauty

Some secrets are deeper than scars. Introducing Rosemary Zimu, Savage Beauty premieres May 12, only on Netflix.

A classic revenge story, this African series revolves around a model named Zinhle Manzini (played by Rosemary Zimu), who is heralded as the new face of a beauty brand. When Zinhle is invited by the owners of the company to live in their mansion, we quickly learn that the model has a secret plan for revenge in mind and a lead to him.

FRIDAY

The children in the room

Kids in the Hall returns May 13 on Prime Video.

The pick of the week is an obvious choice this time around. The classic Canadian sketch comedy series “The Kids in the Hall” aired from 1988 to 1995 and featured Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson as most of the characters. Almost 30 years later, the original group is back with eight never-before-seen episodes.

If the sign of a Canadian series that actually is a spin-off, “Letterkenny” has officially made it. “Shoresy” features the beloved character from the original series as he joins the Sudbury Bulldogs of the Northern Ontario Senior Hockey Organization (NOSHO). Two episodes kick off the six-episode season with subsequent episodes released every Friday.

Sneakerella

One of the biggest surprises in the new Disney Plus lineup is this delightful reimagining of the classic “Cinderella” fairy tale. This Netflix retelling of Michael Connelly’s legal thriller is the second adaptation of the book. The first was a 2011 feature film starring Matthew McConaughey. In the series, the title role of Mickey Haller is played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“Goliath”) while Neve Campbell (“Scream”) takes over the role of Maggie, Mickey’s ex-wife and assistant district attorney. The series is the brainchild of David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies”), so it’s definitely worth a try.

The Essex Serpent

A widow, a local vicar and a mythical beast… are the rumors true? The Essex Serpent airs May 13 on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/_TheEssexSerpent

Starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, this new drama series is adapted from Sarah Perry’s bestselling novel. It follows newly widowed Cora (Danish), who moves from London to Aldwinter in Essex, leaving her violent marriage behind. This is where we learn about a local superstition about a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent.

This British drama series sees Lana Washington (Vicky McClure of “Line of Duty”), an experienced bomb disposal officer, attempt to determine who is responsible for a terrorist attack. As the bombardment intensifies, a group calling themselves “the Crusaders” appears to be the culprit. Lana learns that someone close to her might have ties to the group.

The Matrix Resurrections

It’s truly amazing how quickly movies are released on streaming. First there was ‘The Batman’ and now the fourth film in the quadrology ‘The Matrix’ will be available to watch from the comfort of your own home. The new film reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity but notably misses Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus.
