Eric Clapton announces concerts in the United States with Jimmie Vaughan

Eric Clapton has announced a brief series of concert dates in the United States for later this year with Jimmie Vaughan.

The guitarists will begin in Columbus, Ohio on September 8, then travel to Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh, before wrapping up with a pair of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden on September 18 and 19.

The list of concert dates can be seen below.

Clapton’s band will include Doyle Bramhall II, Paul Carrack, Nathan East, Sonny Emory and Chris Stainton, with Sharon White and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals.

These shows will be Clapton’s first U.S. performances since the fall of 2021, when he played a series of dates across the South. Before launching this tour, Clapton, a notorious vaccine skeptic, said he would not perform at venues that required proof of vaccination. (That promise was ultimately not kept.)

Clapton has also spoken openly about his disapproval of UK lockdown restrictions, including vaccination requirements, and has collaborated on several occasions with fellow staunch anti-lockdown advocate Van Morrison. They have recorded several recent songs together.

Clapton is currently touring the UK and Europe. Tickets for the next set of US dates go on sale May 20 at Clapton’s website.
