Steve opened up about his abrupt departure from the show for the first time in September.

“You remember how when we were younger we used to run and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and panic about the mail and do all the fun stuff. ? And then one day I was like, “Oh, guess what? Big news. I’m leaving!” … Can we just talk about it? ‘ he said.

Burns continued to say, “I realize it was a bit abrupt. I got up a bit and went to college, ”and I called the exit“ really tough ”.

He then addressed his now adult audience: “I mean, we started with clues and now what is it?” Student loans, jobs and families. And some of them were pretty tough, you know?

“I wanted to tell you that I really couldn’t have done all of this without your help. In fact, all the help you helped me with when we were younger still helps me today. ‘

Burns warmly added, “I just wanted to say that after all these years, I’ve never forgotten you… never. And I’m so glad we’re still friends.

Before his statement to the camera, his exit was surrounded by dark rumors, with hoaxes claiming that he had died of a heroin overdose or had been killed in a car crash, with further rumors that he was actually a porn star.

Burns recounted the dark rumors during a conversation with DailyMail.com in 2017, sharing that his mother had called him crying in concern.

It even prompted him to have his Instagram handle @steveburnsalive with his bio by simply reading ‘alive’.

‘It’s embarassing. It is not pleasant. It’s weird and surreal. I think Blue’s Clues and this rumor maybe started back when the internet was really becoming a place for people to search for news, ”Steve said, trying to contextualize.

“So I think it was a little more devious because of that. But other than that, I couldn’t tell you where it started or why it started or why it persists. I really couldn’t.

He said he had simply decided to quit Blue’s Clues to resume his career as a voice over artist and did not want to continue working on screen – adding that he was “exhausted” from doing the voiceover. series for seven years.

“Everyone wants there to be a dramatic response and there isn’t. I wish I had a cool answer on that, but I just – I did it for about seven years and it felt like it was time to go. It just seemed like the right time, ”continued Steve.

Previously, he said: “I knew I wasn’t going to do children’s TV all my life, mainly because I refused to lose my hair on a children’s TV show, and it happened – fast.”

Burns then embarked on a musical career working with Flaming Lips producer David Fridmann and drummer Steve Drozd on an alternative rock album called Songs for Dustmites in the early 2000s.
