With “The Voice” in the middle of its 22nd season, veteran coach Blake Shelton is making a big announcement – he’ll be leaving the show after the upcoming 23rd season, which airs in the spring of 2023.

Shelton explained his decision in a heartfelt statement he shared via Instagram.

“I’ve been struggling with this for a while and decided it was time for me to step away from ‘The Voice’ after Season 23,” Shelton wrote.

“This show has changed my life in every way for the better and I will always feel like home. It’s been one hell of a ride in these 12 years of changing chairs and I want to thank everyone at The NBC’s Voice, every producer, writers, musicians, crew and caterers, you guys are the best,” he continued.

“It takes hard work, passion and adult drinks (Ha!) to put on a live show twice a week,” he added. I have formed lifelong bonds with Carson and each of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife, Gwen Stefani! I must warmly thank the singers – the ‘Voices’ who come to this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thank you to those who have chosen me to be their coach. Finally, it’s about all of you, the fans, watching and supporting these artists, us the coaches and everyone at ‘The Voice’ chasing their dreams. This wouldn’t happen without you!”

Meanwhile, NBC has already announced two new faces that will step in after Shelton’s departure: Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan, who will take up residence in the show’s signature red chairs when Season 24 begins next fall.
