A super sleepy orange cat has earned comparisons to Monday-phobic lasagna lovers’ favorite cartoon thanks to its habit of napping anywhere and everywhere.
In a video posted to TikTok by Mitay_cat, a ginger tabby cat can be seen curled up in a bathroom sink, dozing on a storage cabinet and lounging in a basket, all while in a state of blissful semi-consciousness.
The clip, which has been viewed over 35 million times, ends with the cat lying on its back on a sofa with its arms and legs spread wide as the caption reads “learn to relax”.
It can be watched here.
While it’s unclear if the ginger cat featured in the video posted to social media achieves these levels of restful sleep, one thing viewers seem to agree on is the animal’s distinct resemblance to Garfield, the cartoon feline made famous in Jim Davis’ iconic comic strip. . Known for his laziness, love of lasagna, and propensity to send fringe members of the Barrymore family on lengthy philosophical rants, Garfield’s outlook on life was evidently shared by his many millions of fans.
And while a few recent computer-animated releases have given moviegoers a glimpse of what the cartoon cat might look like, many seem convinced that the sleeping feline filmed here is even close to a real-life version of the familiar favourite.
A TikToker, writing as hammer_digital_work, commented, “So Garfield is a true story. I knew that.” Jason Harvey, meanwhile, wondered, “Anyone thinking about Garfield?” Miri_beyou was convinced, “It’s Garfield” while Kaylee Hannah wrote, “Aww Garfield love you. Lasagna on the way.”
Anna Maria De Gennar was convinced the cat was “the same as sloth Garfield” describing the footage of the feline catching zzzs as “wonderful”. K.nno__, meanwhile, was just in love with how relaxed the cat seemed. “Brother goes to bed like he’s paying bills,” they wrote. Sabrina Forte felt the same way, asking, “Why do orange cats always have that vibe?”
Cats love nothing more than a good nap, but their sleep patterns differ wildly from those of their human companions. A 1984 study published in Neuroscience and Behavioral Reviews concluded that most domestic felines sleep about 10 to 13 hours a day, for 50 to 110 minutes at a time. However, there have been cases of cats sleeping up to 17 hours in a 24-hour day.
This isn’t the first time a ginger cat has won comparisons to Garfield on TikTok. In a previous viral video, a fat ginger tabby was also given the nickname after impressing in a clip showing off his unique lazy ways.
