Capcom Digital (Initiative) Day - Old is New Again

I was invited to attend Capcom’s Digital Day in San Mateo, CA, where they showed off some new titles and gave updates to several previously announced titles as part of its so-called “Digital Initiative”, including the new Street Fighter. Not Street Fighter 4 (but they did was show a picture of a new character, El Fuerte), but Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. A playable demo was available and of course I had to get my hands on it. HD Remix is basically a graphically improved version of Turbo and it looks great in HD. All of the character animations and stage backgrounds have been redrawn, and it shows. All 17 Turbo characters are available, but only Ryu and Ken were playable in the demo. The game plays just like its predecessor and Ryu and Ken also have new moves (you can see what those moves are on this list). Capcom also bragged about the improved online play, which features in-game voice chatting and improved network code. Let’s hope that eliminates the lag that made Hyper fighting on the 360 virtually unplayable. The game is expected to be released this summer on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network at a price yet to be determined.

Besides SF II Turbo HD Remix, there were other playable games at Digital Day, including Lost Planet Colonies, We Love Golf, Megaman Star Force 2, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Plunder, 1942 Joint Strike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. From this list, it looks like Capcom is bringing back the old school in a major way by recreating some of their classic Capcom games (with the exception of Lost Planet Colonies, We Love Golf and Plunder).

The Reboot production crew was not able to make it to the event, so I had no choice but to capture video through my digital camera. It’s not the best quality, but it’s better than nothin’ right?

    Kayven,

I was thinking the same thing. Why not have a playable version of SF 4 at your own event? Oh well, HD Remix held me over while I was there. Sucks that I wasn’t able to choose Guile..he’s my bread and butter when it comes to some good old Street Fighter. Can you say “Guile Freeze?” haha
